Cross Country is trying to move on after a rough fall semester. The controversy filled season is now behind the program and the hope of a fresh start is in the near future.
The team won an early meet in the fall and hoped for a successful season. But after an NCAA rules violation had occurred during the victory, the team tailed off as the season continued.
"I think that the cross-country program will move past what transpired this year and be successful in the future," said Athletic Director Josh Doody.
Doody, who has been traveling with the team, appears to believe that the team will be able to rebound and be successful in the future. He is currently looking for a replacement for the former head coach, Jesse Torres.
"The search has been narrowed down to two candidates," said Doody. "The team will be racing in the fall with a new coach."Doody will decide who will be the new coach before the end of the year. Hopefully the new coach will be able to lead the team in a successful legal manner.
Doody is excited to see what will happen next year. "Next year will be a completely fresh start for the cross country program," said Doody. "They will be essentially in a rebuilding phase. So, that is exciting to watch."
Hopefully, with the hiring of a new coach along with a new year, both the Men's and Women's cross country team can return to form. With runners returning to both teams, the cross country teams hope to put the past behind them and stride to a potentially promising future.
