Argonaut softball competes to be the best in the PacWest

The Argos started off the season strong going 3-1 in the Best of the West Tournament Feb. 1-3.
In the first game, they beat Grand Canyon 3-2 in a close battle. Tara Van Meter pitched six solid innings and also hit an RBI double. Cierra Keeney closed in the seventh and also hit well, knocking an RBI triple.
In the second game against Davis and Elkins, NDNU was able to hold on to a win 7-5 in 9 innings. Danielle Holt pitched in the victory allowing three runs, striking out four, and walked two. Holt also had three hits offensively for the Argos.
Along with Holt, Van Meter drove in the game winning solo home run right after Bryanne Norris drove in two.
On the second day of the tourney, the Argos had a tough time with CSU Dominguez Hills losing 11-2. But later that afternoon, they bounced back and defeated #10 CSU Stanislaus 7-6 in an extra inning.
Although the Warriors started the game with a 4-0 lead after five, Van Meter came up with a double driving in two runs. They continued to score giving a cushion in the eighth. Van Meter pitched the whole game, had two hits, and two RBI's.
The Argos finished the Tournament tied for second place, while two Argos were named All- Tournament Team; Van Meter and Holt, a pair of good pitching and solid hitting, .615 and .500 respectively.
The Argos next games were against Sonoma State on Feb 6. Unfortunately, they lost a pair to them losing 10-0 in the first and 5-4 in the second. The second game was a battle rallying back and forth. NDNU tied in the sixth with a three-run double by Norris, but could not stop the Seawolves who took the game in the bottom of the sixth.
NDNU then traveled to spend Valentine's Weekend in Arizona at a tournament where they went 2-3 over three days.
In the first game the Argos lost to Western New Mexico 2-3, but beat Texas A&M International 5-4.
The next day they had a big win beating San Francisco State 7-3 to win the bracket. In this game, Van Meter came into the game in the second inning and shut SFSU down.
