Julie Loucks, a member of the women's soccer team, accomplished a great achievement in her soccer career. Loucks tried out and has made the Philippines National women's soccer team.

The tryouts that were held on May 20th, and lasted about two weeks in Manila. Loucks who was unexpectedly contacted by the National teams representatives was very excited and thrilled about the chance to get to play.

"I got really excited about the chance to go and play," said Loucks. "How many people get the chance to play for their country?"

Former NDNU soccer player Anton del Rosario, was a crucial piece of the puzzle in getting Loucks onto the National team.

"What happened was Anton basically just told them about me, he must of spoke of me highly because they became very interested and contacted me," said Loucks.

Loucks, who has dual citizenship, was born in the Philippines, in the city of Dagupan. Her family moved out to San Francisco when she was only 4 months old. Loucks was very excited when she realized that she would get the chance to play for the country she is originally from.

During tryouts Loucks was really surprised with the way practices were ran. "At school we do a lot of conditioning and when we aren't conditioning we are running drills. During the tryouts we did very little conditioning compared to school, but we did have drills and mostly played scrimmages," said Loucks.

"Going into tryouts I felt pretty confident, I didn't know much about the team and what the skill level of the players would be," said Loucks. "I was excited to see how good the team actually was, the team is very strong and has high goals for the next few years."

On the last day of Tryouts they told Loucks the good news, "They told me on the last training session that I made the team, they said that I was going to be a big help to the team."

The national team is getting ready for a big tournament in Thailand. The tournament, called SEA Games (Southeast Asian Games), will have teams from Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

The Philippine team has been a strong team over the last few years and with their continued strong play hope to qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London.

"I would love to get the chance to be part of that team, that would be such a great achievement."
