A few months ago, a situation fell into my lap. A friendship developed into something more, but the line was still gray as to where we stood.
I found myself asking the question, "Are we just friends?"
The answer was clear and the strings had been cut. It was now or never and I had to make a choice.
Do I want more or keep things in the carefree and fun current situation?
Friends come and go. Some make lasting impressions and others leave you with a sour feeling. However, there are those friends who are more than just friends.
Yes, I am talking about "friends with benefits."
A friend with benefits is a loose term. Some define the term as friends who hook up a few times or have an on-going situation. There are no strings attached and the freedom to continue to play the field is still an option.
A friend with benefits is the ultimate situation until things get complicated and one or both parties involved want more. Sharing a connection with someone you are comfortable with and are able to have fun with avoids the mess of certain relationships.
However, things tend to get tangled when more emotions and elements get involved. What is needed in this condition is for one to decide what he/she really wants in order to maintain peace of mind.
Ask yourself, is this what I really want and do I want to take this to the next level with this person? Being indecisive is not an option, nor is fear of being alone or losing the current scenario.
All in all, making a friend more than just a friend is fun but can get complicated. Knowing yourself and what you can handle is the foundation of a beneficial situation.
Assuming more means more when in reality it doesn't can cause emotional harm. Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into and that you can maturely handle the situation.
Most importantly have fun and be safe making new friends!
