Update: NDNU defeated Grand Canyon in Phoenix Tuesday night and are now 3-0 in the Pacific West Conference.

The Volleyball Team got off to a rough start this year losing seven of their first nine games. But due to some recent good play and some senior leadership the NDNU volleyball program is turning their season around.

The Argos are currently 5-8 after their recent home stand against Dixie State and are hoping to add onto that win total as they head to Arizona to face Grand Canyon.

"Our season really started turning around after our first home game," claimed senior and co-captain Emily Evans. "The crowd was amazing, even though we lost it was still very inspiring. It really pumped us up and gave us some needed motivation."

Even though the first home game for the Argos was a loss to Stanislaus State, the loud crowd sparked a fire in the NDNU team. After that first home game the Argos have won three straight home games and have currently won three out of their last four.

"Our first home game was a great crowd, it really created a fun atmosphere to play in," claimed co-captain Marissa Miller. "We want people to come out and support us because it helps us out as a team."

NDNU was picked to finish last in their conference and before the season started was figured to not be a very good team. But as the year has gone on the Argos have shown that they are a force to be reckoned with.

"We are the underdog this year and that is fine with us but we want to win and do well in conference and show people that we can play, we want to make a name for ourselves," stated Miller. "We are a close knit group and if we work together I think we can be successful."

There are four seniors on the team and their recent play has really been a lift to the team and has made them a contender in almost every game. Miller, Evans, Sarah Perry, and Shasta Milhollin have been the backbone of the team this year and hopefully can continue to be the leaders that this young team needs.

"We are a strong young team that still needs improvement, but we are better than last year and we are working as a team to get better," claimed Miller.

On Sept. 28 the Argos launch a five-game home stand starting with CSU East Bay. All games are at Gleason Gym at 7 p.m.
