The upcoming season starts in November with rookies' training camp. Scherman said he is eager to start due to the possibility of making it on to a big league team.
"I knew a couple of teams were looking at me and there was a possibility of it happening. I never thought I would be drafted this high, and I am thrilled to get the chance to play."
Davidson, a midfielder, played for four years at NDNU. He finished his senior season with 19 goals and five assists despite playing just 11 games.
"I am training and keeping my stick active. I am expecting to learn and practice good habits that I observe from better players and have a lot of fun," said Davidson.
Scherman, a high school teammate of Davidson's from Central Memorial High in Calgary, also played for four seasons at NDNU in the midfield. Scherman finished second on the team last season with 32 goals and added seven assists in 14 games played. Davidson and Scherman are the first players from NDNU ever to be drafted by a professional league.
Scherman spent most of his summer in Calgary, running a landscaping company and looking forward to the start of the hockey season.
"I got off of work with my buddy and we headed up to the mountains to go camping. We were talking a little hockey and I got a call," said Scherman. "It was unreal. One minute I was saying 'go Flames go,' and the next I find out I am on a professional lacrosse team."
Scherman knows he can't just pick up where he left off here at NDNU.
"I need to get myself into shape, I am getting a great opportunity here, and I want to take advantage of it," said Scherman.
He said knows it will take hard work and extreme motivation to get to the playing level that it takes to be a NLL lacrosse player.
