He has a great approach to art," said Wiegand Gallery director, Robert Poplack, as he introduced the guest speaker, Norm Rosenberger. "It is really interesting, attractive artwork."

Rosenberger shared his artwork on March 26 at Wiegand through a slide show that was started with a picture of his cat to art students and teachers.

Rosenberger lives in Oakland and uses the neighborhood as his inspiration. He uses all different mediums including Sharpie Marker, which he likes because of the quality and flow, acrylic, charcoal, ink and brush, and oil paints.

He uses architectural elements as themes throughout his work, whether it is setup in his house, arranged or with a use of shadows.

"Drawing the environment that you are in is a really great thing to do" says Rosenberger. "It's great to draw the figure. It's great to get the figure on the rectangle. And then, I just want a little bit more. I just want the figure in a space that gives a personality."

Rosenberger teaches life drawing class at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts on Friday nights. He received a Bachelor in Fine Arts from University of Oregon and a Masters in Fine Arts from Stanford University. Rosenberger served four years in the military.
