Love 'em, hate 'em, can't get enough of those awful shows

Do you ever find yourself sitting in front of the TV with your nose glued to it, and not even like the content of what you are watching? Of course you do, we all do it, and to most of the same shows.

One of the largest growing genres on TV is the reality show. Every single network is tuning into America to try and put together some sort of contest that we can all watch, or some house that have "strangers" live together and see the drama that unfolds.

Upon college campuses across the nation, MTV has hit the big one. I bet that if you walked into 10 different rooms throughout a day, assuming the rooms contained TV's, six of them would be turned on and tuned into MTV.

What is funny to me is that MTV rarely has music on it anymore. Wasn't that the point of the channel in the first place? Granted MTV does have the occasional music video, and TRL does show like four seconds of each video; but regardless music is slowly fading on the channel.

So what are the shows that are taking the place of the music? Shows we all love to hate, let me name a few; Sweet Sixteen, Laguna Beach, The Hills, Date My Mom, Parental Control, Real World, Road Rules, My Own, Next, The Duel, Jackass, Wild Boys, Maui Fever etc…Come on, you all know what they are.

Don't get me wrong, I too have fallen victim of these shows. In all honesty I hate them, yet I still continue to watch them. All I do when I watch these shows is sit at the TV and yell at them like men do for a football game.

Yet each week when a new episode comes on, I can't help but turn on the TV and see what is going to happen next. Sometimes when I'm not able to watch the show I even go as far as to tape the darn show! Why do we do that to ourselves? Why would we want to sit and watch all these shows that are so superficial?

Well folks, I've decided that we love drama; it's as simple as that! We love to see people interact, and then try to play the critic for their lives. Do you ever notice that? We are constantly comparing our lives to the shows on TV.
