Because it's somewhat of an older crowd Club Max has a sense of calmness other clubs around the bay area seem to lack.
Knowing that I was eventually going to have to get on the dance floor, I dedicated an hour or so at the bar to prepare for the experience. What I hate about dancing is the fact that you never know whether you're good or not, my girlfriend just smiles and laughs. I constantly get the same look from her so I've come to the conclusion it must be a pity laugh - a laugh that I see as my cue to go back to the bar and get more ammunition for the war I call a dance floor.
Club Max does a great job of playing a variety of music. From rock to Hip-Hop to salsa, a listener never knows what's coming next. It's fun to watch the dance floor when the change happens, nervous faces and confused feet slowly changing to the beat.
When the live band performs, Club Max transforms. The lead singer looks like a drugged out version of Prince. Well, lets just a say a more drugged-out version of Prince. He is, however, an excellent entertainer along with his band. They played old-school classics which set the mood for the rest of the night.
A song the band could've left out was "I'm bringing sexy back" by Justin Timberlake. The further the band got into the song, the fewer people I saw on the dance floor. It was an older man trying to bring sexy back, and it just didn't work. It was actually quite disturbing to be honest.
For the most part the live band did a good job keeping the crowd excited, minus their rendition of "I'm bringing Sexy Back."
Club Max is a place where one can get away from hectic nightclubs and truly have a goodtime.
