Shelter Network, a local non-profit, is looking for volunteers to serve as street count workers in their upcoming "One Day Homeless Count" Jan. 30.

According to Shelter Network, this count is essential for San Mateo County as well as the federal Housing and Urban Development department and will be their basis for planning for the homeless and underserved over the next three to five years.

The count will focus on Millbrae/Burlingame/Hillsborough, Menlo Park/Atherton/East Palo Alto, and Woodside/Portola Valley. A mandatory two-hour training session will be provided on Jan. 26, at Shelter Network 1450 Chapin Ave., 2nd Floor, Burlingame, from 10 a.m. till noon. An hour and 30 minutes will be allotted for the street enumerator training, followed by the street survey training which will cover 30 minutes.

For more information on training dates and locations, to sign up and participate, or to make a donation, contact Lynelle Bilsey, volunteer coordinator for Shelter Network, at (650) 685-5880) or visit .
