Most of us know our professors as the people standing up in front of the class trying to get some sort of knowledge stuck into our brains. But when I take a look back at all of my years in school I have to ask myself, "Do I really know my professors?"
Is this something I really want answered, or do students not really care about what our teachers do outside of school? I felt it was time that we as a community should get to know our teachers. Not because of sucking up, but because rad professors usually have really rad life stories to share.
We all know Dr. Ronald Burris as the laid-back history teacher who passionately teaches us about history. But the real Burris has many layers of love and compassion toward students and life to share with us.
For those of you who had him as a professor, you can recall all of those passionate sermon-like lectures that sometimes rocked to you to the core.
For others of you who have never experienced a Dr. Burris class, let me help you understand his lectures. He strives to paint history out for you like the most beautiful sunset the world has ever seen. His motto: "I want the words on the page to jump out at you!" are said by Burris numerous times throughout his classes.
All this information about him can be mustered up just by talking or listening to him within a matter of seconds. But who is he? What does he do besides teach at NDNU?
Burris is a pastor of a small community church in Richmond, Temple Baptist Church. He is a man of God who loves the Lord and will gladly tell you.
"I enjoy this ministry where I'm trying to serve God," said Burris.
Besides his pastoral duties he loves to work with people. He enjoys officiating at weddings and seeing the joy that the couple and their families have in celebrating this step in life.
"I love weddings because I love to see everyone together honoring marriage. It is important because they give support and example to the children," he said.
