It's hard to be the goddess of love and beauty at this time every year.

As I sit around and watch each of my love affairs come to an end, I always find myself single and alone on Valentine's Day.

Even my own son can't find time to shoot an arrow my way on the day of love. This year I have decided that I am tired of sitting around while all the couples claim Feb. 14 as their day.

Valentine's Day is more than just an excuse for couples to coo and cuddle each other, making all of us single folk call out to Hades. Let's use this day as a chance to visit all the other great loves of our lives.

Valentine's Day is about love so why don't we use this day as an opportunity to remind those close to us that we love and cherish them. Make holiday cards for your family and friends. Personalize each one to make it clear that you took the time to make it special.

If you have more time maybe you could bake cookies or cupcakes.

Not into the domestic thing? How about having a girls/boys night in. A benefit of staying in, instead of painting the town red, makes it easier to avoid sickeningly sweet couples out on their dates.

The point of getting together is to have fun and avoid sitting at home feeling absolutely miserable. I myself am planning a secret valentine for my night in with the goddesses. It's similar to secret Santa but instead of just presents we're going to be giving each other the cheesiest Valentine's themed gifts we could find.

Are corny sentiments not your thing? Why don't you try doing something good for mankind? Volunteer at a shelter or maybe spend sometime at the Humane Society. Spend your time making your community a better place. It may just become your most memorable holiday yet. Perhaps it will become a tradition.

Lastly, we should all remember to give our parents a call to remind them that we love them.

Whether or not you have a significant other, it takes only a couple minutes to say I love you. Daddy Zeus is waiting by the phone as we speak. No matter what your plans are for that night, remind them of how much you appreciate and care about them.

Valentine's Day is about celebrating love of all types. Whether you will be celebrating it with you partner, spouse, friends, or maybe even your dog, remember that this day isn't only for couples. Who needs a date for Valentine's Day anyway?
