The Ruby Skye bar/club located off 420 Mason St. in San Francisco hosted one of the best concerts I've ever seen on Sept. 6.

This place is nice; it not only has a large dance floor, but sofas you can lounge in as well as a full scale bar so that you can get a little loose. The only downfall is that while walking to Ruby Skye you may come across a crackhead or two. Just keep your head up and keep walking.

The show that I ventured to consisted of Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, Rhymefest and Planet Asia. The show was only $20 - $20 to see Talib Kweli, who in my mind is one of the best MCs of this decade.

The show was packed and KMEL hosted it. The DJ played classic tracks while we waited for each act to come on. People danced to hits from Bob Marley, Notoroious B.I.G, and Tribe Called Quest and so on.

It was great to go to a show where the DJ didn't play any Lil John. YEAAAAAA!

The first act was Planet Asia. He almost tore the house down before the main acts came up. An LA based MC, Hungrier Than Ever, came to the stage and the crowd was instantly hooked and hung on his every word.

Planet Asia did well because of the passion he showed. You could see how much this show meant to him. Sweat poured out as he rocked the crowd from beginning to end.

Next was a Chicago-based act, Rhymefest. This guy was like a combination of a pastor and Tupac Shakur. He preached while he rapped and captivated the crowd in every sense of the word. At one point he even jumped into the crowd and was one with his fans.

At times his antics were somewhat corny but the crowd loved it, and Rhymefest was definitely a hit among Bay Area hip-hop heads. He played a song that featured Kanye West. Since Kanye was probably counting his money somewhere, he asked a kid from the crowd to come up and do the verse. It was crazy. He involved the crowd like I've never seen before.

Lupe Fiasco is Chicago's supposed new Kanye West. This kid has skills. He has a unique voice and doesn't sound like your typical MC. He didn't get the crowd as involved but his lyrics were so smooth that it didn't matter. He was promoting his new album so he wanted everyone to know that he had some substance that the world needed to hear. His album came out Sept. 19. It should be a classic.

The final act was Talib Kweli, Brooklyn's finest. The crowd went absolutely insane when he came on stage. I couldn't believe that I was watching one of my favorite musicians up close and personal.

Watching a live show makes you appreciate music so much more. You see dedication, passion and the artist as an actual human being. Talib Kweli was the best act of the night and showed the Bay Area that Brooklyn knows how to party too.

A toast to true hip-hop; the show was great.
