Men's golf battles wind and rain as well as opponents

For their first tournament of the Spring the Argonauts traveled to Bakersfield to compete in the CSUB Spring Invitational.

The tournament was held at Seven Oaks Country Club, par 72 and 7,079 yards long.

During the tournament conditions were extremely difficult. Wind was a factor on both days. It also rained during the tournament.

"The course played tough," said junior Mike Prescott.

NDNU finished tied for 11th place with CaliforniaState Monterey. The Argonauts shot a (324-305) 629 for two rounds.

"The team came together in the second round and finished strong," said Prescott.

Prescott was the medalist on the team and finished in fifth place overall. He shot rounds of 77 and 74. Behind him was Korey Storer who finished tied for 19th with rounds of 78 and 77.

Dean Henry finished tied for 38th with rounds of 83-75. Michael Kerrr shot 87 in the first round and 79 in the second round.

Lance Taylor had rounds of 86 and 81.

"I was happy with my performance," said Prescott. "It was a good way to start off the Spring season."

California State Bakersfield won the tournament by shooting (311-290) 601 as a team. They were lead by Chris Killmer who finished second overall with rounds of 74 and 75.

Bakersfield is currently ranked second in the nation among Division II teams, according to Golfstat. Nick Bell of California State Monterey Bay won the individual title. He shot rounds of 75-72 in tough conditions to win the invitational by two shots.

The Argonauts next tournament will be the Otter Invitational in Monterey, which will be held at Bayonet Golf Course.
