The Faculty Senate has put together the Holiday Fund to help support Price. "He has four grandchildren and we hope to help make the season bright for him and his family," said the letter sent by Dr. Deb Cash, chair-intensive human services and Dr. Richard Carolan, research coordinator.
Donations to the fund are being collected until Dec. 22. Checks can be made payable to NDNU Faculty Senate and mark the left-had corner with Bill Price's name or put any money donations into sealed envelopes with your name and Price's name on it to Carolan or Cash in the Ralston Annex.
Born in San Francisco, Price moved to the Belmont area around age 7. There he grew up and attended Hillsdale High School. He graduated and started attending the College of San Mateo. Price then made the move to Spokane, Wash., where he was stationed as part of the U.S. Air Force.
While in Spokane, Price attended Gonzaga University and studied business. In the '60s, Price was shipped off to Vietnam. While in the line of duty, he was shot in the arm, and he still has the scar to prove it. He was then relieved of his position and sent home.
In 1965, Price became the newest member of the San Francisco Warriors basketball team.
This may explain why Price was a loyal fan to the NDNU men's and women's basketball teams. He had a love for the game and attended as many as possible. He played for the 1965 and 1966 seasons, before accepting a job with Western Airlines. In 1993, Price took a job working for the College of Notre Dame, now NDNU.
Here at NDNU, Price had many responsibilities. One of them was in the mail center where he took care of mailing and postage issues. Price's other job was campus security, where he performed routine checks and responded to emergencies. In addition to those tasks at the end of the month he also helped with the accounting.
For all of his years, Price was not only an employee of the university; he was a friend to just about everyone. He made a point of getting to know the students and faculty and took pride in being able to address people by their names.
In March of 2004 Price underwent surgery for an aortic aneurysm and was missed by everyone during his recovery. Although he missed much of the semester he commented that he would return for graduation because he had never missed one.
