Awele Makeba, an award winning and internationally known actor, will performher one-woman show of "Rage Is Not a One-Day Thing!" Jan. 23 at the NDNU Theatre.
Taking place during the eight years of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, Makeba portrays a dozen women, men and teenagers during her performance, including 15-year-old Claudette Colvin, a young girl who refused to give up her seat on a bus nine months before Rosa Parks' arrest for the same action.
The 381-day bus boycott in Montgomery, Ala., contributed to the start of the Civil Rights Movement.
As a "truth-teller," educator, and an artist for social change, Makeba spends her life researching, writing and performing hidden African American history.
She invites her audiences to contemplate the complex and emotionally hidden issues that teach everyone about their common humanity, potential, and their purpose for "being" in the world.
