Volunteers turn out to replenish SF Food Bank and Second Harvest in SC

Part of the National Second Harvest network, it distributes 23 million pounds of food everyday to low income families, after school programs, and homebound seniors.
The San Francisco Food Bank exists to provide hope for individuals who have experienced tragedy. The current focus of the SF Food Bank is to help extend aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
On Sept. 17, approximately 25 NDNU alumni, students, staff and friends joined together and volunteered at the San Francisco Food Bank.
The NDNU Alumni Association has been volunteering on and off for the past three years at the SF Food Bank. Stocking pantry shelves, food donations, labeling cans of donated food by central valley farmers, cleaning produce, packing emergency food boxes, and other food sorting projects are among the tasks volunteers lend a hand in.
Staff member Frances Jacobson said, "The intention of the food bank was to help the victims of hurricane Katrina."
Due to the recent tragedy on the Gulf Coast, the surrounding food banks delivered so much supply to the victims of Hurricane Katrina that they needed to be replenished instead.
The next volunteer project is on Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Second Harvest Food Bank in San Carlos. All are welcome! Contact Alexander Agopovich
