Construction over the summer eliminated dry rot.

Yellow tape and signs that read, "Don't lean on this wall" were the defining features of the pedestrian bridge to the third floor of Ralston Hall last year. Serious dry rot had compromised the walkway and, according to President John Oblak, bids for repairs were running into six figures.

However, over the summer the campus facilities department took on the task of repairing the bridge at a cost of about $60,000.

Last week, Oblak invited the faculty and staff, which was on campus for University Day, to join him in toasting the completion of the repairs. The group walked from the library to the bridge and raised glasses of wine or cider as Oblak renamed the walkway the Namur Bridge because it links the modern NDNU campus with its roots and history in Ralston Hall and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Province Center on the lower campus.

Photos here show the walkway while it was under construction over the summer. Ralston Hall visitors had to enter through the Music Department or from the front entrance on the first floor during construction.
