NDNU goes green...er

On every other Thursday, students of NDNU should line up with bags of plastic and glass bottles, cardboard paper, and compost in the middle of the quad to recycle.
President Greg Bearson and co-president Kourosh Behnam of the Students For Sustainability Club guide students to help become green enforcers and make a positive change in the environment inside and outside of campus. The Club originally started off as the "Green Club," but was changed in order for the club to sound serious about working to improve environmental issues.
Last semester, co-president Behnam had the idea of starting Recycling Day. Freshmen and Senator of the Club, Hannah Giger, was able to make this happen as she started Recycling Day as a project for her FYE class (First Year Experience). She helped involve many of her classmates in the project and now every other Thursday, from noon to 2 p.m., they are set up in the quad ready to collect more recycling materials.
One of their biggest achievements has been raising two hundred dollars in donations, and that's not even including the money made on Thursdays. They will use the money for more educational and fun activities on campus like Recycling Day.
They have started to make trails around the school for students to take walks or go hiking. Last but not least, they are getting a water barrel that will collect water. The water will be used to water the plants here at NDNU.
Freshmen Rosella De Alva says, "It is important to reuse to clean and save our environment."
She recycles three to four times a week. She recycles everything she can get her hands on, from plastic to glass to paper.
Giger believes that students should recycle and join the club in order to help make improvements in our world.
"We don't only think for ourselves, but we brainstorm ideas to better our campus," says Giger.
